    Oil caps revisted

Okay, which (if any) of these oil caps is correct for 1970 LS-5s? The JG says all that is stamped on the top is an S on the domed rivet. The JG does not refer to an SM stamp and no other details are described. What are other characteristics to look for? Can anyone provide a photo of a correct one, please?

    Thanks,
    Scott

    Scott,

Below is a picture of the oil cap from my 1971 LS5. My car was built in early sept of 70 so it has a lot of 1970 parts. The oil filler cap shown is original to the car. Others will chime in........

    Regards,

    Tom

      Re: Oil caps revisted

Thank you, Tom! I asked the same question a couple of weeks ago and you can tell by my post that the answers weren't sufficient. And maybe I didn't ask the right way.
That (in the photo) is what I envisioned when I read the JG. That cap of yours is the first I've seen that looks correct. Are there any unique characteristics on the underside that would tell the difference between the reproductions and real deals?
I just got fed up seeing NOS this and correct that for 1970 Corvette LS-5s. None had the single S on the rivet except the double recessed ones with flat rivets that are made in Mexico. I have seen several variations of 'NOS' and 'correct'.
      Again, thanks for your time.

        Scott,

If I get a chance, I'll get a picture of the bottom tomorrow. I don't recall anything specific about the bottom to distinguish it from repop's.

        Glad I could help.

Again, thanks. There is also a 1970 Corvette LS-5 owner in Austria that I often assist in finding parts for his car and one item is a correct oil cap that he needs. Through my descriptions of correct caps he realizes now that the one he has is wrong. I forwarded to him the photo you sent to help him identify one.
Gosh, I wish this tech board had spell check.
