    Route 66 DVDs

Has anyone found any REASONABLY priced DVDs of the Route 66 episodes. Last time they were mentioned here they seemed way too expensive.
    Thanks

    Depends on what you consider expensive. Amazon.com offers Season 1, Vol. 1 for $24.99 or Season 1, Vols. 1 & 2 for $45.98. FWIW. . .

      $59.99 for 116 episodes

      $58.99 for 116 episodes

      $58.99 for 116 episodes

There are more like that. Just search for them.

I believe these are usually the ones copied off Nick at Night in the 80s and you get some commercials, but all 116 for nearly the price of the single season is a deal.

was this serie any good (besides that the Corvette was prominent starring in it)?

          Re: Route 66 DVDs

          Rob,

Debating the quality of screenplay, acting and storyline aside, one of the more interesting aspects of this series (for those of us living in North America anyway)is that it was entirely filmed on location and often included specific, contemporary references to local figures/events. From my own experience and as a (former) Torontonian, the episode filmed there during the final season, aside from featuring locations that I frequented in my youth (Canadian National Exhibition stadium, Royal York hotel and (currently being demolished Inn on the Park), also made direct reference in the dialogue to "that Mr. Bassett is a pretty good guy" as Todd and Buzz are descending an escalator in the Toronto Telegram (newspaper) building. John Bassett was the publisher of the now defunct Telegram, but went on to found the Canadian Television Network (CTV), the first private competition to the government-owned Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). I'm sure others could relate to locations that they have visited or lived and local events, sights or even references as well.

The second area of interest in the series (aside from seeing/hearing vintage Corvettes being used as "drivers" each episode), is the guest star cast. Some later very successful and famous actors and actresses had early parts in Route 66 episodes. The first volume of the first season DVD alone includes episodes with Bruce Dern (bad guy in westerns including Hang-Em High), Leslie Nielsen (Police Academy, Airplane, etc...Canadian, by the way--his brother late became Governor General of Canada), Anne Francis, Anne Margaret, Jack Lord (Hawaii Five-O), Jack Warden and others.

Some find the writing/plots pretty "hokey" by some of today's standards, while others would argue that they are more realistically simplistic as is the life of most ordinary people. Either way, it's a matter of personal taste...
