Identifying re-stamped Q-Jets

Is there a way to positively ID an original 7029204 Quadrajet from the stampings, casting numbers or other physical features on the carb? I'll be looking for one in Kissimmee next month and would like to know what to look for.

I'd start

by reviewing the pics on the recent thread concerning re-stamping. Perhaps you should arrange to have them checked by someone there. I know why you are concerned. I saw a carb a while back which had been converted from Motorcraft service replacement to show-correct BOSS 351, and I couldn't find anything wrong about it. That's a jump from $50 value to $2000, in case you are not into Mustangs.

Thanks Dave but actually I posted that thread with the pics to try and point out the obvious re-stamps. It was from a 442 site that I found on the Pontiac Forum. Those guys really seem to know the Pontiac Q-Jets right down to which body casting numbers, etc, etc, etc where used with which carb part number so is would appear that even though the "new part number" looked proper, there were other tell tale signs that would flag a re-stamp.

What I was hoping to get here was good detailed info like that about the Chevy Q-Jets...in particular the 7029204. Now I know that this wasn't the Corvette performance carb so maybe that is why it would seem like we are not too farmiliar with them. That being said could someone recommend a good Chevy, Camaro, Chevelle site that I should look to for info? I can see the Camaro and Chevelle guys being all over this just like the GTO guys are about their carbs.

Team Camaro and Team Chevelle are sister sites along with Impalas, Novas etc. http://chevelles.com gets you on that site and at the bottom of the main page is a link to all the other associated sites. Lots of good info in all of them. GL
