To undercoat or not to undercoat my 64

    Hi all,

Merry Christmas to all first off. Now here's my question. I am currently restoring my trailing arms and while I have the arms out and the differential out for cleaning I have decided to clean all the old road gunk off of the rear portion of the lower body behind the rear crossmember including the tunnel aft of the driveshaft. I eventually cleaned my way to the lower wheel well area thats below the frame. This would be the area you can see looking in and I removed all the old undercoating, paint and primer and now it's just the bare fiberglass. I am wondering if it would be necessary to recoat this area or will it pass any real judging? I know the judging guide calls for undercoating but it sure looks nice all cleaned and natural. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. I can provide pictures if needed.

    Cheers,
    Craig

If the JG calls for undercoating in specific areas and manners, you will lose points if you don't try to duplicate it.
Also, in the wheelwell areas, if you don't have undercoating, you run the risk of throwing up a stone and hitting hard enough from the underside to fracture the paint on the top.

          Kevin,

I am with you on the less is more theory. I did not remove any undercoating on the inside upper portion of the wheelwell. I only removed the lower section below the frame. It loos nice and clean and I do hate to put it back.

          Thanks for your imput.

          Cheers,

          Craig
