I recently acquired 1953 Corvette #276. This could be the highest mileage - lowest value surviving 1953 Corvette. 1953 #276 had 270k miles on it in 1969, and probably added a bit more since then. #276 was owned by the same guy (David Elie) from July 1957 until Feb 2007. David was an NCRS member in 1976, but I suspect he was a fairly inactive member.
David Elie apparently liked performance equipment, and even autocrossed a bit. The original drivetrain is long gone - replaced by McGurk performance upgrades (a 261 cubic inch truck block, McGurk valve cover and oil filter, etc).
#276 was repainted gold prior to July 1957, and has not been repainted since. The car is unhit, and still has many original pieces. The interior, for example, still has its original seats, gauges, dash paint, door panels, etc. A pic of #276 circa 1974 appears below.
The website addition contains many current pics of #276, and reflects some of the car's history, especially the McGurk upgrades. I will update the website as I take more pics of original or interesting pieces found on the car.
I am hunting for more info and pics relating to 1953 #276. Please contact me if you have anything related to the car.
Thanks,
Russ
