Help to ID a Borg Warner Transmission

Need help identifying a Borg Warner Trans with the followng information.

WJ51-2 S120328. I believe this is correct; Warner Gear, October 5, 1961 2nd shift, serial #20328.Case appears to be aluminum as well as the tailshaft.Any idea of what chevy this is out of? Thanks, for any help. Lou

Double check the vin number, a '62 Corvette vin on an early T-10 I once owned was 2100xx. Other wise it was basically in line with the box you describe. This one was out of a '62 Corvette with a VIN under 100.

Lou, The "J" is a Sept. build (Dec was "M"). Trans is from a hi-perf '62 passenger car built at St. Louis about Oct. 11th.

looks like a bad restamp A - L is january thru december .

That's what I figured you'd say. It's no restamp. If you are correct, then please provide a photo of an "I", which would be Sept. by your dating method.

To step into a potential war of words between Vern and Nancy--
Borg-Warner did NOT use an "I" to designate assembly month stamping. As a result, December is "M", not "L". That's usually the case with castings but not stampings, however in this case, it is also true with stampings. Therefore, "J", the 10th letter of the alphabet, indicates the 9th month of production (October)
