I found a T-10 transmission with a build date of WA42-3. It comes with the following statement. "Another amazing fact is ther is no vehicle stamp code anywhere on any of the housings. The Book of Numbers said VIN stamp codes started being used in early 1962 with a build date of A4. It must have been one of the last transmissions to be produced without a VIN stamp". Would the be a correct transmission foe a March car 8212 or would it have to have the vin stamped on it?

Re: 1962 T-10 transmission
All '62 Corvettes had a VIN stamp on the trans. I've personally seen them as early as car #88. Pass car may have started much later.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: 1962 T-10 transmission
Advertising hype. Probably purchased over the counter with no VIN stamp. Or had the VIN stamp removed.
Although it fits within the NCRS 6-month criterion for dated parts, it really is early for a March car.- Top

Re: 1962 T-10 transmission
Had a Dec 61 production 409 SS Impala. No vin stamp on engine or trans. Some plants started earlier than others on passanger cars, but Corvettes from the begining. Mike and Bill are 100% correct.Over 80 Corvettes of fun ! Love Rochester Fuel Injection 57-65 cars. Love CORVETTE RACE CARS

Re: 1962 T-10 transmission
Hello Jim,
I'd be curious to know which plant assembled your '62 409 car, if you can remember. I believe all plants received the same instruction to stamp the VIN derivitive on hi-perf & Corvette engines beginning with '62 production, (at least that is what can be inferred from the new model TSBs I have) however, I have encountered several hi-perf Pass engines without the derivitive, not only in '62 but through '63 and '64 as well. There may be an issue with a "slow start" of the procedure at some plants, which I haven't documented well enough to be certain, but there certainly was an issue with lazy line workers who simply did not bother with the procedure. I don't think the derivitive stamping was an inspected item, therefore it was easy for a worker to get away with not doing it if he wanted to be lazy.
In any case, the directive applied to hi-perf engines at Pass plants. You should never find a derivitive stamped on a 250hp engine or trans from a Pass plant. Therefore, a trans with no VIN is not necessarily an over-the-counter trans. Also, a simple check of which set of 3 shifter mounting holes were used would answer which type of car the trans was installed in.

Re: 1962 T-10 transmission
It was made in Kansas City and sold new in Dallas, Texas. I agree, I have seen voids in many cars over the 62-64 years, especially 62.Over 80 Corvettes of fun ! Love Rochester Fuel Injection 57-65 cars. Love CORVETTE RACE CARS
