I wonder if one day someone on this TDB will be looking for supercharger parts or these monster tires for this car. Time will tell.

The gearing is rather tall, but anything shorter would probably just create more tire smoke.

What impresses me the most is that it is a TRUE CR gearbox like in vintage Corvettes, except with two more speeds.

Given the likely broad power bandwidth and closely spaced gears I expect delivered power through the gears to average very close to the peak rating.

I will be interesting to see what the mags report in their performance testing.

There's no arguing this car's power and performace, though I am still somewhat turned off by a non-naturally aspirated engine in a factory Corvette... but I can get past that.

The thing I don't like is that the car looks like some kid bought a nice, new Z06, and took it to Pep Boys and said "Gimme all the sweet add-ons you got on your shelves!"

Ugly wheels, corny hood, huge chin spoiler... carbon fiber look roof, (even if it is real, is it? ) corny ground effects, again in carbon fiber... and that horrible, cheesy GM add-on rear wing. ugh. So tacked on. And the ZR1 emblem in the back. stuck on, while the "Corvette" script is sunk in as with a normal Vette.

It'd have been nice to see a 6-figure car get it's own rear cover with a built in spoiler (not tacked on) and matchign emblems.

Maybe I am being picky... I just see this car and think somone went nuts with an aftermarket catalog for appearance items.

On the bright side, I think the side scoop treatment looks great! heheh

This new ZR1 may become the modern equivelent of the '67 427/435. With the new fuel economy standards, we are living in a new muscle car era and it may be coming to abrubt halt - again. Snap 'em up while you can. The next generation of NCRS members may be selling these cars for huge money at BJ!

I agree. They should have gone with a cleaner look rather than all the tacked on effects. A wide bodied base C6 would look better IMO.

i know if i owned a 67 BB corvette that could be sold for $100K it would be gone and a ZR-1 on the way. here is a corvette that goes like hell, can be driven everyday, every where, get decent fuel mileage and has a warranty.

the car still has to be built on the assy line at bowling green so that limits what can be done to the car as far as size and shape. the C of D of a C-6 is about as good as it gets so they would not want to change that.

Re: New ZR1 - USA Today Article

It is amazing how repeatable history is. In the 60's I really wanted a 427 but I missed them when they only made them for 4 years then chevrolet went to the bigger and "surely collectable" 454's. Sort of like the current run of 427 Z06's followed by the "new ZR-1" The 454's never became the icon that chevy envisioned.

Later in the early 90's the original ZR-1 was created following the LT series engines for the then astronomical price of $60K to $70K and it also was advertised as a sure collectable. The original ZR-1's while great cars are far from getting back to their original prices in any collector buy. Again, not the icon that Chevy had envisioned.

History has shown that the '67 427 which was only the second of four years of availablilty is the standout price getter that is hard to explain, when even better engines in the later 68's and 69's are much less regarded. It has to be a C2/C3 timing thing not an engine thing.

To be sure, as I have said before, we are in a great horsepower chase that is sure to end very soon due to emissions and mileage just like in the 65-70 time frame so anyone who can should jump in because speaking from experience, this time will never come again.
