Can I replace the heater core of my 72 corvette or do I need a professional to do it?

Re: 72 heater core
David,
I haven't had to do it YET on my '72, but I know it is inevitable! I have heard (others can confirm) that Vettes w/ AC are a little more difficult to do. Juliet Page, an active contributor to this NCRS board, replaced her heater core and documented the process. The link below might be helpful to you.
Good Luck!!

Re: 72 heater core
I have changed out the heater core on my 70 with air. Its not all that difficult if you have patience. Several things have to be taken apart and removed. Just remember that the heater core comes out from inside the car and about the only thing that is removed in the engine compartment are the two heater hoses to the heater core. Personally I would not want anyone else to do this job to my car.- Top

Re: 72 heater core
This is one of the easier things I have replaced on my non-A/C '72. I improved access by taking out the passenger side seat. One warning about sealing things up. I used regular old RTV, which sealed very well. However, I was smelling the vinegar smell from the curing RTV for months afterwards. Next time (if there is a next time) I'll use the RTV that cures without the smell.- Top
