Good Morning. This post is to tell you I think I'm among the luckiest people in the world. I was just reading posts about how exacting judging has become and how expensive NOS parts are. I love this hobby and I am amazed at the knowledge the people on this board have. I'm always pleased to find something is original on my cars (a 66 conv. and a 68 coupe)but I'm not blessed with the extra income in my retirement to be buying up those valuable old parts. As luck would have it, when I started in this hobby in the early seventies, I bought cars that ran well, were inexpensive ($3000 and $6000)and repaired and repainted them as I liked, and started driving them for fun. I also bought lots of stuff at swap meets for little money. Once I bought a garage full of C1, C2 and C3 parts for $1500 and rented a truck for $1700 to go get them 1200 miles away. I think I may have broke even on them over the years. But mostly I met fun people at swap meets who loved Corvettes like me. I helped some people out with valuable parts for little money, And they helped me out with knowledge I could not have found otherwise. Now I'm driving the wheels off my cars and most people don't know how many points I'd lose at judging. I get to enjoy the cars some of you have devoted so much time and money to get correct, and believe me, I admire you for your efforts. My good luck was to be born without the need to have it all right. But I do have the need to enjoy my cars and to enjoy this organization. Thanks to all of you, and keep DOING THIS STUFF!! Larry

Re: The hobby, NCRS and my C2
Larry,
You might be surprized yourself if you had your cars judged. I've had the good pleasure of participating in the judging process as an OJ and I'm happy to report it isn't nearly as stringent as you might think.
You will read a lot of discussion here about the finite details of nuts and bolts etc, but honestly there isn't enough time on the judging floor to seek out every thing discussed here.
Most of the people who go after this stuff are taking their cars to a level of correctness that will really not gain them much on the scoring sheets. Their motivation is beyond the blue ribbon.

I know the judging is fair and I know I should go get judged sometime. Neither of my cars are close to original. The 66 has a state issued VIN tag and small fender flares. The 68 has later rear fender sections to keep the road rash down and a 400 HP setup on a 390 horse replacement engine. I just love the whole Corvette thing and appreciate you all so much. It's a great time just "meeting" guys like you, finding there are people like Joe L. who gives so much of his knowledge to us all, and so many more who post here and let us know whats going on and where in the process they are. What could be more fun than this?!! Larry- Top
