Re: 1963 starter
Nancy, interesting question. As I recall all the starters used on 1963 Corvettes were number 1107242. The solenoid was 1144304 or possibly one other that I can not recall the number on. That starter was also used most if not all passenger cars with a 327 in 1963. For some reason they are hard as hell to find.
I did not have an original in my April built 63. It took John Pirkle 18 months to locate one with a January 22, 1963 date stamp. That was the only one he found stamped prior to April for me.
Try John first and also check eBay on a regular basis.

Re: 1963 starter
It's been a couple of years but Mr. Pirkle didn't have a correct '63 starter
when I called him. I tried for a whole year. He may have one now.
I posted a request in the Driveline and received a call one night from a man in
Pennsylvania with the correct item. Mr. PIrkle had a hand in restoring it and
it was never used by the gentleman. I would try here second.

Re: 1963 starter
Nancy,You might want to do some more research on the correct solenoid for your 63. My late Feb engine should have a 1119910 solenoid. But on the other hand you can't see the number anyhow. The number is pointing down toward the starter. Big question is how it should be treated as far as the finish goes. I believe that it should be all black. Not zinc plated. The over the counter replacments are zincad but the real deal is black paint. There are some fellows restamping starters so be careful. Try Cannizzo for the correct one. John- Top

Re: 1963 starter
John, You are probably correct. After doing a bit of research this week, it is now questionable if the 1114304 solenoid was ever used on a 63. Looks as if it may have been only the 1119919 on very early 63's and 1119910 on all the rest.
Let's see what the new JG says.- Top

Re: 1963 starter
Harry, Without digging thru my notes. Wasn't the 4304 used on the 64"s?
Jorjorian and I have been thru this a lot. As you know we covered this some on VH.s
I actually don't know what the JG or JM says as I seldom read it as you know. I have a really nice 9910 for my 63 but it needs a NOS black plastic cover assembly as someone sold it to me with a cheep fake NAPA brown cover. Friend of yours I believe. Happy New Years, John- Top

Re: 1963 starter
John and Harry, As per the 3rd edition of the 63-64 Judging Guide it reads: Very early 63 stamped#1119919. Early 63 through mid 64#1114304. Late 64 #1114356. Now that may change in the NEW upcomming guide. My question is were are you comming up with the #1119910??????????? John it might have been used on a passenger car??????- Top

Re: 1963 starter
Mike, I came up with the 9910 number from Robert Jorjorian and Michael Hanson. Like I always say I personally don't read judging manuals and when judging just use them for a reference once in a while. If you see a judge laying out the manual on your fender and reading it as it were the New Testament you know you shoulda stayed home. heeee. But that's just me. Don't go by what I say.
But as far as the solenoid a lot of us have known for a long time that the 9910 is the real deal. To stick up for the manuals for a second I have always wondered that if there had been a problem reading the 9910 on an original solenoid and hence forth the 9919??? Anyhow I have the 9910 on my desk and it's going on my 63 as soon as I find a nice NOS black plastic end for it. It's now zincad but will be painted black. That's the extend of my solenoid knowledge.
Hey RJ. Jump in at any time to help me on this thing. Happy New Year, John D.- Top

Re: 1963 starter
John, yes it was Nancy's post on starters. I send her an email for another supplier. Nancy should, somewhere along the line, add to her post about how she is doing. She just disappears. I would like some feedback, wouldn't you, as to what she thinks of our suggestions and recommendations.
