    CT Title search

Back in May of 2006 I purchased my 1969 coupe from a gentleman in Connecticut. I went online and printed out the form to have a title history done for my car from the CT DMV.
When I received the results the paper said that "No record of ownership exists for the following described motor vehicle". How can that be when I purchased the car in CT and the car was registered and tagged at the time of purchase?

I was hoping to be able to track down some of the previous owners in an effort to learn some of the history on the car.
Does anyone have any idea how this search from the CT DMV could have returned zero results and what would be your suggestions at this point?

    Thanks,

    Dave

    Re: CT Title search

After living there from age of 5-19. I remember back in 69 when I bought my then 58. They would only keep records for 10 years on all cars. The 58 that I had from 69-74 was a CHORE as the current owner told me in 1992 regarding research and docing the car for Duntov. The 58 spent most of it's life in and around Newington and NW CT. I believe CT still only keeps records for 10 yrs.

Oh well, I guess that's that then. In an additional effort to document my car I tried to locate a tank sticker; how far from the filler neck are the usually located?
I removed the gas door and pulled back the rubber seal but, without a flashlight, I couldn't see anything.
Without a way to track down prior owners and the chance that the tank sticker may be gone, I may have to resign myself to the fact that I have a nice factory original '69 L46 and be happy with that.

Have you looked into that new program that the NCRS is offering with regards to any info they have on file for your Vin#? You might be able to pick up some info on previous owners or locations. Good Luck.

I live in CT and learned the hard way. Once you turn a title into the DMV on a vehicle that is over 25 years old the titles is not kept. I actually turned my title into DMV expecting to get a new title with my name on it. No going to happen.

I bought a '69 in CT in April. I did the same thing, ordered the online form and sent a check for them to search the title/doc history, etc. They came back and said no dice and returned my check.

Steve, at least you got your check back. Can someone provide some additional details regarding the NCRS service that was mentioned?

Ralph, is correct, I live in Connecticut (for 53years now)and once you turn in a title to our state and the car, truck, or motorcycle, over 25 years old you will NEVER NEVER see a CT. title again. I've learned the hard way to many times. The best thing you could have done is register it with a bill of sale, and you keep the title in a safe place.

See the "Award Confirmation Documentation Service" link at the top of the page.

The Award Confirmation Service; is that information gathered from past NCRS activity? What information, if any, is available through this service if the previous owners were not involved with the Corvette community?

It would be nice if you could enter your VIN and search the database to see if information was available on your car before spending the $300.00 for the kit; just a thought.

If your car has never had any NCRS activity, there would be nothing on file, it's a new program you may not have to pay full cost if no info is available? In the meantime I might contact my team leader to see if he could provide any info as too how it works. Merry Christmas.
