C2 hood support

The hood support mechanism on my '67 SB is acting up. It doesn't want to 'catch' to hold the hood open until I move the hood up and down several times, when it finally locks into place. Is there an easy fix that I'm missing? Thank you, and I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!

Larry -

Make sure the "pawl" is moving freely and is properly lubricated so it drops into place when the support is extended.

John, I lubricated it as best I could; I squirted some engine oil around the pawl, but no improvement. The pawl os hard to get to. Should I use WD-40?

It's possible to slip the two halves apart, if you take it off the car and reverse the direction of a normal "pull apart".

Then perhaps you can get a good look at the insides.
