Likely an original, not "usual" but based on the original broached surface I'd likely buy it.

VIN derivative agrees with engine assy date

That's an "EC" (327 Chevelle, 327 H.D. or 4-speed; Spec.High Perf., 4bbl.), not FC, as it might be interpreted from the edge-of-pad character.

The VIN derivative 144207 translates into a car produced in Atlanta final assy. about 17th June.

Framingham, Baltimore and Fremont Chevelle plants have end-of-month final VIN numbers that would not jive with a June 7th block assy.

        Wayne,

Yes, the stamp is EC. You have to look very closely at the photo to see bottom leg.

Re: VIN derivative agrees with engine assy date

I like it Verle. I owned a 65 CHEVELLE L-79 new after college. (Another car that I should have never sold) The last few years I have been tracking L-79 Chevelles, especially 65's. I guessing this is a Baltimore car?? Most came out of Kansas City, but the June build date leads me to believe Baltimore.

Do you have any other data on where the engine came from? I'll be happy to share my SURVEY of 65 L-79 CHEVELLES. Only 6021 cars were made out of over 399,000 cars made. Very rare option, and one of the first muscle cars for sure.

            Jim,

I just ran across this engine on the web, no other information.
