67 sb 300hp NO power st. oil pan

    Members,

Trying to figure out which pan is correct for my car. Original is long gone, as my car came with the bare block!!!

I see 5qt. for the power steering cars and I guess 6qt. for non-power steering cars? They both seem to have the same marks/indents on the sides, but one is obviously bigger.

Which do I need and what is best way to tell visually?

    Thanks!

    Justin,

For a 67 300 HP, you should have a 5 quart oil pan, with or without power steering.
The 6 quart pan interferes with the power steering ram as well as the steering damper on manual steering cars. If you have a 6 qt oil pan you can't have power steering or a manual steering damper. It has to do with the length of the sump part of the pan.

See this post from the archives, there is a picture and dimensions here:

      Jerry and Justin------

NO 1967 small block ever originally used a "6 quart" pan. The last use of the "6 quart" pan for C2s was 1965 for most SHP small blocks without N-40. After 1965, the only small blocks that originally used the "6 quart" pan were 1970-72 ZR-1 and, possibly, some early 1970 LT-1.
