Have a Schwitzer, 3814560, which is original to a Mar64 car. Lost a point for not having the "CJ" black ink stamp on it. Now since the CJ vs CK is small vs BB and 64 did not have a BB and doing some searching of articles it appears that the CJ ink mark was not added till 6-15-66 . . . Leads me to believe that I should not have ink on my fan.
What is the present story on ink stamps??
Thanks
Alan
Alan, I have the original on my 63 and I purchased another at Carlisle last year. The original has NO ink and the one from Carlisle is marked C8D. C8D is March 8, 1963. After researching ink on the fan clutch my conclusion is that some were and most were not inked. Saying that, you should not have lost any points as either ink or no ink is OK for a 63 and 64.
Bob, what Fred does is inspect the clutch real close before he starts. If he finds an indication of ink, he will determine what was there, then restamp the clutch when he is finished.
If he finds NO indication of ink, it is returned with NO ink.
Actually the date of 6-15-66 came from a Restorer article Fred wrote relative to the "CJ", I think in 1999, titled "63-67 Small Block Fan Clutches"
Since more is learned every day I was just trying to determine the latest and greatest thought.
Wonder what the JG will say on this, oh well I can wait until spring.
Thanks Harry!
