    GM parking brake parts availability

I was wondering if GM has the parking brake shoes still available for 65-82s.If so,could someone post the active part #?Also, before I order the complete parking brake hardware kit from a catalog, does GM have a complete kit? Thanks,Craig

I don't think GM has a kit, not sure abou the shoes. If you hardware needs to be replaced, there is some advantage in using the stainless steel replacements stuff. This area is quite prone to corrosion. Of course, with cars that see limited use and little if any wet weather, this may not be a valid concern.

      Craig-----

1965-82 Corvette parking brake shoes are currently available under GM #5463579. This part number, which includes 4 shoes to service both rear wheels, currently GM lists for $81.12. Most of the other parts for the parking brake mechanism are only available as individual pieces from GM. The parking brake shoe hold-down springs are the only exception. They are supplied as a kit under GM #325075 which currently GM lists for $9.69. This kit includes a lot of springs not required for the Corvette installation. I recommend using the stainless steel parking brake mechanism kit manufactured by Stainless Steel Brake Corporation and available from vendors like Dr. Rebuild and others.

You can buy the shoes from a jobber for 1/4 the price of the GM parts. Check around before you step up to pay the GM price. The hardware is a lot cheaper to buy from aftermarket suppliers too. GM is buying some of their hardware from Stainless Brakes in NY state !!!!! I needed the lever and couldn't buy it anywhere else last year...went to GM...parts came with SB trademark stamped on it. Surprised me....
