    C1 minute details

On my '61: What is the finish on the brackets riveted to the headlight buckets to recieve the screws holding the bezels on? Were they riveted on before or after the buckets were painted? Also, same question for the wiring clips under the hood and in the trunk, and the clip inside the gas door for the vent tube? Natural finish, black or body color?
    Thanks.

    Richard,

On my rough, but pretty original early 62........

    - 4 headlight bezel brackets per side appear black anodized, and seem to be installed with hammered soft aluminum rivets after bucket painting.

    - underhood wiring clips/screws appear painted same color as the "black out" paint, but a few have some rust showing. Photo below is hi-res so you can zoom. Please disregard the "non original" items(dist, air cleaner, intake, etc), and the "bubbas" from the PO.

    - trunk clips/screws appear to be original finish, but not installed before paint. These are a "light surface rust" color, so I think they were lightly plated steel. Screws appear to be zinc or cad plated as they have minimal rust.

    One example.....

Bucket brackets: Black paint, same as bucket. Brackets were in place prior to paint application.

Underhood and trunk wiring clips were in place prior to blackout in engine compartment and paint application in trunk.

Clip, vent hose and bracket, bumpers, all get body paint. In some years, such as '61,62' I'm certain the fill tube grommet was also painted. I believe this is contrary to the judging manual. Or at least it was.

As a note...Judges will look for bare fiberglass under the "J" clips on the inner skirt and firewall area.
