I have a 71 BB and am trying to find the correct color to paint the engine. I have been reading lots of archives but have not really found an answer yet. I would like to use a spray gun to paint the engine. Does anyone have a paint code for the correct color enamel paint or failing this which spray bomb is the closest match?
Thanks in advance.
Sheldon
Many auto paint stores actually have codes for Chevy Orange, and that may be the simplest. I used the orange from Quanta and had that sprayed on, but I'm not sure they sell it any more. I can't find it on their site.
If you have access to any original paint motors (or even original paint valve covers) consider bringing them in to the paint shop and having the color scanned. I suspect it will give the best match, and it's what I plan to do the next time I paint a motor.
Given the option of using a spray gun or an aerosol, the spray gun would win hands down every time. Better paint and a much more accurate appearance, and I've used both.
