    It is indeed GREAT news

Just to be a contrarian (WHO moi?)
Did either of you bring up the issue of BB v SB and/or the M40 variants? Or perhaps he said whether they are doing header pipes or not.

Actually I am just inquiring in the search for more information, and to help determine his target market.

I did not get in to all the variations regarding the midyears since I was mainly focused on the 70. Mr. Gardner was extremely nice. He will work with anyone that can go over variations, details, provide originals etc... In terms of the 1970 he has competed the LT-1 and BB but not the SB regardless of transmission.

I am happy to be the point man but I have absolutely no experiance with anything other than my 70 L46 Vert. so I am not sure how much help I can be to Mr. Gardner. What he really needs is as many original examples as he can get.

Any of us that can help will likely get some kind of break on the early systems he can put together. I for one am up to being a guinea pig.

Let's pass the word and try to locate some original 2" pipes and mufflers.

Actually all the variations I mentioned ARE early C3s. But if you didn't go there it is fine. I only hoped to provide more information to others on this forum. Others eventually will knock on his door, so to speak. All I have are LT1 systems and I know those are already covered. We are just waiting to see the product.

Just goes to show how little I know right now. But I enjoy learning.

I am hoping that someone has the pieces he needs to make the 2" system and is willing to help the rest of us out who can benefit from having a reliable provider of a correct exhaust system.

            Finding Original Components...

Is going to be more challenging than it seems.

Years ago, I tried to do exactly what you are doing now. You at least know a small fabricator that is already producing good repro exhaust systems for Corvettes and is interested in extending his product line. I contacted a small existing fabricator and got the same response as you; i.e. he was ready, all he needed was original components to use in design. I think they may have already been in the classic car exhaust business, but not for Corvettes.

I advertised in the Drivline to try and find some orignal systems for the fabricator. My ad stated condition was no object, either NOS or good sound used...I received exactly zero response. If people had NOS stored away for their cars, they weren't going to sell; and, it they had original systems ON their cars, they weren't going to take them off even for a good repro set.

Maybe more people will be interested now, and you'll get better response. Knowing a lot of members and parts vendors that squirrel this stuff away would be invaluable in the search, but you sound like you are as new to the hobby as I was then. Good Luck.

              Re: Finding Original Components...

Hi Chuck and happy new year,

I talked to JT Piper and he was very helpful. He has one of the pipes NOS now on ebay. He is going to go through some more of his stuff to see what he can come up with. I have had one person comment that there is a guy in CA that probably has the pipes but wants $350.00 per pipe, so I am told. I have never talked with anyone that actually has the parts. The interesting thing is that even a fairly rusted set would be just fine at this point.
