Re: what tow vehicle to buy????
Andy, I have had numerous Chev. GM tow vehicles. All with gas engines. My favorite combo is the one I have now. It's a 2004 6.0 with an Allison and a 4:10 rear. It runs with the big rigs and passes everything but a gas station. That thing will pull anything but only averages 10 MPG without a trailer and 9MPG with a trailer. Go figure. Something ain't right in the math but that's what the PC says.
"If God told me I could only drive one type vehicle the rest of my life it would be a GMC/Chevy full size gas hog SUV" Quote is from my brothers father in law and I agree 100%.
There are a ton of SUV's that will tow on the level and a slight grade but when you hit the big hills of say WVA and VA on Rt 77, 19, etc. it takes some brute HP and gears to make those hills. My 6.0 will eat up the longest hill and never drop below 50. I understand the diesels are better though but don't care for them.
Here is something to think about Andy. How many times are you planning on pulling a trailer a year. Then the rest of the time you got to pay 3-4 buks a gallon for gas for what. You might consider a tad smaller tow vehicle and just struggle up a few hills if you are only going to show the 63 which is in a million pieces. Meanwhile you should be able to steal an SUV now as the car lots are loaded with them. My 6.0 holds 37-1/2 gal and that gas hog hurts my wallet for sure. I mean a 100 buks doesn't fill the tank. But you'll have that. John D.
