Re: When COOL was King ! #2
Jim..this a period picture and car. I need to go back and write down the ownership details. Did you notice the column tach?
Below is another shot of the same car but with the full windshield.
Notice how much longer and lower the 57 looks without the windshield in the first picture.
We all have our favorite year ..this one is clearly my favorite...and still makes the juices flow!
I am very interested in the car I posted earlier today featured at the 1960 Miami Autorama. High horse fuelie 4-spd w/4:56 rear end..painted Gold. My Nassau car was painted gold around 1961, there was a special gold 57 that Betty Skelton drove at New Smyrna in Feb.57 and Russ's 53 he just bought was painted gold I think in the early 60's. Must have been a very popular custom color.

Could it possibly be Chuck Brassell in Southern California ? Here he is at Torry Pines in 1957.

Re: When COOL was King ! #2
Great period pics. I have not seen those before. Very COOL!!!!
I believe my 53 was painted gold in 1957 or so. I recall reading an article in On Solid Ground suggesting that Chevrolet painted a handful of special Corvettes gold. So perhaps this is what inspired the gold paint job on some of the old C1s.
My 53 is not the only gold 53, however. Ed Thiebaud gave me some pics people had sent him back in the early 70's. (Strangely enough, Ed had a pic om my 53 #276). 53 #013 was also painted gold. Looks identical to the pic of my #276. Pic of #013 appears below.

Re: When COOL was King ! #2
Maybe someone else can take a look see, but it looks like this car has michelin radials, with the "Michelin" and "6.70-15 X" highlighted with white tire paint.
Jim - maybe it's clearer on the original photo that you scanned?

Duke,
It's all stainless now. No white, no black, no colors.
And, you'll probably save enough $ in better efficiency from new appliances to pay for them. I know you're all about mechanical efficiency.

One of our neighbor gals is an interior designer, does mostly kitchens; she sez stainless is losing favor, as it's too "cold". The coming trend is "warm" finishes like bronze, copper, etc. Don't tell anybody.- Top
