C2 1965 Deck Vinyl Trim Acorn Nuts

Happy and healthy New Year Everyone!!
I wanted to get your input on these acorn nuts. Hopefully the picture uploads. All three are 5/16". The middle and right nuts came off my trim. They have 'PAL' dimly stamped on one side. A new one I found (far left) also has 'PAL' stamped, but the letters are more crude and closer spaced. Do the two I removed appear original?
    Thanks, Dave

can't speak for the 65 vette pal nuts but for some perverted reason, years ago i collected a bunch of original 5/16 pal nuts off a bunch of 63 roadsters, none of which have the PAL stamping. i did find one pal nut with the pal stamping but it takes an 11/32 socket but its stamping is identical to the crisp PAL as on your two originals.mike

For the record, here's a picture with washer.

        They look like mine!

The originals off my '65 are identical to your photo, including the thick washer.

Where did you source the new ones? LICS?

          Re: They look like mine!

Thanks guys. Now that I know they're original, I'll spend more time polishing them up. I thought I had them in pretty good shape until I saw the photo! I'm not sure I would have seen the marking until I noticed it on the new one and gave the old ones closer examination with a 10x hand lens. The two pictured are the best out of the eight - one was missing. One I could not make out any stamp marking. The car 'b-day' date is December 2, 1964.

I found the new one at a local ACE hardware store. It's not your normal hardware store though - they carry alot of 'oddball' parts. The type of place you go in for 'something that might work', you disappear for a couple of hours, and you come out with not only what you went in for, but several other project parts! I've been able to put my old spearguns back in working order from their parts bins - not to mention an occasional odd and end for the car. Surprisingly, I wasn't able to match the washer. I'll go back today to dig more for one and maybe pick up a set or two of the acorn nuts since they turned out a good match.

          Dave

Also thanks for giving us new guys in this hobby a clue. Things you take for granted as common knowledge we're in the dark about. This is a great forum for preserving some of this knowledge and experience!
