    Decoding 56-57 AIM?

Is there any way to decode hardware part numbers in the AIM? When I see a bolt is supposed to be a "122007" is there any way to find out if thia is a 5/16-18x1" grade 2, or whatever?

    Dave,
The only source I found for this information was "1953-72 Chassis Restoration Guide" by Joe Tripoli. It is available from the NCRS store.

Dave, There is no way to decode the fasteners in the AIM.
Fastener identification was done via the General Motors General Quality Standards for Purchased Material, which was not used on the assembly line. The "front" office at the plant had a copy and could be checked if there was a question, but generally the assembly line worker put on what he/she were given. The General Motors General Quality Standards for Purchased Material was a multi volume, as I recall about 6 large 3 ring binders, that called out every last detail of purchased parts and is not available outside GM.

The early parts books cover a number of fasteners, etc, in Group 8.900. Later on they were contained in a Standard Parts catalog. (I have a Nov 71 version)
