    C1 '58 Bellhousing / Exhaust Man. Foundry

Were the cast iron bellhousings and exhaust manifolds cast at the same foundry as the flint assembled engines came from? I'm trying to understand if there's a relative relationship between cast dates for the engine, bellhousing, and exhaust manifolds. Thanks in advance. Ted

Re: C1 '58 Bellhousing / Exhaust Man. Foundry

Same foundry, but not in batches or sequentially, every day several thousand engine blocks, exhaust manifolds, and a lesser quantity of Bellhousings were produced and trucked as single items (a truckfull of blocks, a truckfull of manifolds etc) to the Flint Engine plant where they were dumped into a "last in first out" inventory system. Parts were then taked randomly from this pile and loaded onto the appropriate machineing lines to work towards final engine assembly. The whole engine machining and assenbly process was not lengthy, not was any of the inventory date prioritized.

If they did, they are on the inboard side *NM*

Mine had what appears to be month and day. No year.. They are on the inboard side.

            Ted -

Not having a year designator is quite common on exhaust manifolds; just the month letter and number for the day.
