    Q-Jet ID please.

Could some of you Quadrajet experts help me figure out what this is for. I don't think the base plate is original but other than that I really have no idea what it could be for.

There is a number "355" stamped in the aft, L/H corner of the base plate that might be a date code but that is it for stamped numbers. I'm guessing that it's 65-66 vintage but I'm no expert.

    Thanks.

It looks like a late 60s carter built Q-jet.

That's what I thought on first glance but then I see noticed it used to have the part number stamped onto that disk(which is missing) so that led me to think that it was earlier.

It also has a vacuum port above and to the right of the fuel inlet as well as some "funny" linkage where the choke rod comes up through the air horn...

what type of needle seat assy does it have as the very early ones has a special one. it is not like any type you have seen in any other carb.

Ya you are right about that Clem. The only ones I have ever seen screw in but this one is held in place by a tab with two tiny screws. The primary rods piston is also held in place with a little clip. Others that I have seen just push down into the piston bore and are held in place with a plastic bushing.

Thanks Clem, so basically this is a 7027200-201,7037200-201,7027202-203 or 7037202-203..correct? Could it possibly be older than 67 or is there something that you see that points to the numbers you referenced?

it could be older because the Qjet started on 396 chevys in 1965. during the 67 model year is when the needle/seat changed to the conventional type

                  Re: Q-Jet ID please.

Okay then..so it's before the change-over date in 67. Thanks a lot, that sure helps to narrow it down.

Do you know where I could find some more info on it to try and narrow it down even further. Did any 65-67 Corvettes use the Q-Jet? If not then it's obviously not even for a Corvette...

What do you think of the throttle plate....does it look correct for that carb? I thought that the threaded vacuum connection in the rear was a 70s thing but maybe not.

1966 chevy Q jet part # 7026202-210-203. check these # to see if they were used on a corvette. buick started using Q jets in 1966,caddy 1967,olds 1966 and pont 1966

                      Greg------

Although used on various Chevrolet models since 1965, the Q-Jet was not used on ANY Corvette until the 1968 model year. So, this carburetor was never originally used on a Corvette. However, it is generally similar in external configuration to those Q-Jets used on 68-72 Corvettes.

So since there is no part number stamped on this carb do you guys think it would be possible to narrow down the application a little closer based on it's physical features?

Clem was very helpfull in determining that it is before the needle/seat change over in 67 and I don't think any other divisions used the 90 degree fuel inlet besides chevrolet so that puts it at a 65-mid 67 chev application or over the counter replacement.

Is there any other features that could be used to help narrow it down...maybe jet or rod sizes? Since this isn't a Corvette carb is there another site that you guys might know of that I could try for this info?

all the carbs use #71 jets. the 396/427 used #44 and #41 rods. the 327 used #45 and #43 rods

How do you tell what size the rods are? If I remember right, other rods I have looked at have the size stamped on them but these have nothing on either one. The secondary rods hangar has a "K" stamped on it but that's it...

mic the diameters as the #s are in thousands of a inch. # 45 should mic .045
