    1970 LT1 - Frame Off

Hi all - have searched the archives and have found bits and pieces on painting - but not the answer to this (which is probably a reflection of my searching skills!!)

    - what is the best source to understand what is the correct paint/finish for restoration of each part of the car

    - i am not limiting myself to exterior paint...but what kind of black (flat, semi, glossy) were the a-arms or some bracket...what kind of orange for the orange bits

    - i am hoping for a guide that gives a part number or some identifier that one can then go to a modern paint dealer like dupont or ppg and find out what the current match is -

    - I have the 1970 AIM, but didn't see anything in there

    - apart from the 1970 AIM, i just ordered the 1970-72 Corvette Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide...would it be there?

    - or is the answer that there is no single source? - if that is the case, where does one look on a part by part basis?

    many thanks!! - stephen

    Re: 1970 LT1 - Frame Off

You'll have to use your copy of the Judging Guide to read about what's 'correct' for various sub-assy component finishes. It's not a simple matter of calling out this/that paint. Why?

Well, quite a few pieces went to the St. Louis final assy line from outside suppliers finished with paint to GM's purchased part spec's. They'd use whatever source they felt comfortable with (and GM would accept) hence there are a multitude of paints (enamel, lacquer) and gloss factors that were present on factory original cars.

We all take it one part at a time and do the best we can with the info that's available. MANY of these discrete component finish questions have come up before and are covered by prior threads in the archives.

Thanks Jack - yes...saw a few component specific paint questions, but thought (naively) that if there were a single compendium (which it sounds like the Judging Guide comes closest to being) that would help - many thanks, stephen
