Disassembled and cleaned the shaft and cross shaft gear and cavity of my T.I. unit # 1111296. What should I use to lube the tach drive gear and cavity ? (there's no nylon button on the thrust end). I want to avoid something that will cake and dry out. What about the centrifugal advance weight pins ? Does one coat the shaft with motor oil before inserting into the housing with bronze bushings ? Any tips most appreciated.

I use GM #1960954 for all distributor lubricant applications. Unfortunately, this is only supplied in a relatively large tube and at a significant price. I'm not even sure if it's available anymore. If not avilable through the GM parts system, it may be available through Delco. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Lube(s) for Tach Drive Distrib assembly
I've found ARP "Assembly Lubricant" (a smooth gray moly-based lube) to work very well in applications like that (including the grease well under the breaker plate for the upper bushing, which doesn't get any engine oil, and is usually ignored maintenance-wise).- Top
