I just got back from Barett jackson. There was some serious money paid for a 67 L 89 ($210000) plus commision. My friend purchased a driver big block 67. The engine is not original but we are currious what it is. Does anyone know what a pad stamp of " CE96 788 " is? The back of the block has the letters" CONV-2 " cast into the rear where i expected to see GM part numbers cast. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Casting CONV-2??
i have never seen a block without a casting #.check to make sure it has not been ground off because there have been blocks found that someone ground of the casting # and then put a fake number on using iron filings and epoxy to make a number matching cars. there was someone on this board that happened to to his dismay.- Top

"CE9xxxx" indicates a warranty replacement engine (originally supplied as a short block assembly), assembled in 1969; the rest of the numbers are an internal engine plant code whose format varied widely and has not been deciphered at this point. Some big-blocks had the casting number down on the side of the block on the passenger side instead of on the bellhousing flange.- Top
