    '66 L79, non-A/C fan

The fan that came with my '66 (non-A/C) L79 looks mostly correct, except it doesn't have the W stamping on engine side that is described in the 4th ed. of the '66 TIM&JG. First of all, do people agree that the '66 TIM&JG is correct in that all original fans had the W stamping and those without the W are GM service replacements? If so, can anyone recommend a source for an original used, restorable fan with the H and W stamping?

    Thanks,

    Gary

    Gary...

My '66(non-A/C)L79 fan has the W. If you decide that is what you need, try J&D Corvettes, Bellflower, CA. 800 838 8353, ask for Woody.

      Rob,

Thanks for the quick reply. And can the W be seen during judging?

....the W is pretty large and easy to see by just rotating the fan until it's visible.

          Re: '66 L79, non-A/C fan W Stamping

Gary - Like everything else we deal with in restoring 40 plus year old cars, we find what is "typical' or "typical production." Unfortunately, the stamping of manufactures' mark(s) and/or other designation(s) was not an exact science, so if you research an item and keep looking so you have a good enough sample population to draw your conclusion (40 years later) you will find some pattern that stands out as "typical." On the other had if you look at enough examples of that item, you are more than likely going to find examples that deviate. When it comes to stamping, I have seen flashers with one manufacture's production code stamping (typical), some with no manufacture's production code stamping and others with 2 different production code stamping; AC RC26 radiator caps with AC logo near one ear and the RC26/15# on the other ear, and some with the AC logo and the RC26/15# both located near/on the same ear; and some with the AC logo and the RC26/15# 180 degrees from what might be suggested as typical and I'm sure the list goes on and it make the hobby interesting and sometime frustrating.

In the case of the 66 and 67 Corvette sb 3770529 fan blade assembly it's a challenge to determine the vintage of the assembly because the most recently available part from Chevrolet and I think it might still be available looks identical with the exception of the W stamped on the back of one of the reinforcements. My experience has been that the new GM part does not have the W on the back but knowing that the fan blade assembly without the W is "original" to the car is difficult to determine as far as I know.

            Pete,

First off, Happy New Year to you and yours.

Regarding the fan blade, I think the path of least resistance is for me to find one with the W.
