C3 AC Revival

I am going to try to have my 71 AC system evacuated and charged as the compessor and related system seems to be operational. Would like to know if any changes are necessary to accomodate todays refrigerants. Any info on potential problem areas I could check prior to the recharge would be appreciated. You guys are a wealth of information and I cant tell you how much I appreciate your input through my restoration. You make all the difference in keeping it fun instead of frightening.

Conversion to R-134a is not a big deal if done correctly but most do not recommend changeover unless you have had a major component, such as a compressor, failure. If you do change over you will need to change the drier and the system oil. It is recommended that you flush the system. Any "o" rings that you disturb should be replaced with new that are compatible with the R-134a.

NONE of the alternatives refrigerants are recommended by the OEM's. By law they have to have a different set of fittings from R-12 or R-134a. Once you charge a system with any of these products most reputable AC shops will not work on them. They do not want there reclaimation equipment contaminated
