Well I'm learning all about the phrase....."63 ONLY". I've just researched the archives about the rare 63-64 Powerglide neutral safety switch. Ebay just sold a used one Friday really cheap:-) with the backup light switch for over $200(Item# 140194025880).
So checking the 63 for the wife's safety, I noticed the plug near the wiper motor is connected to itself(violet wire going to the starter solenoid), and no harness going to the trans, and sure enough, the neutral safety switch is missing. It also looks like the forward transmission boss where the switch mounts has some unique hacksaw blade markings which I doubt are factory made.
Were taking the car to Kissimmee for display and getting around while my 59 is latched up for judging. Here's my idea for general safety and till I find that gazillion dollar switch and rod lever.
I'm going to connect a normally open relay(4 terminal high current-40amp), coming off of the brakelight switch. I'll wire up the relay contacts connected in series to the ignition switch solenoid violet connector.
This will require the brake pedal to be applied to start the car.
Make sense? Any other ideas welcome.
