3-digit # in grease pencil - what is it?

    Hi all,

On the inside of the instrument cluster for my '59, there is a 3-digit # written in green grease pencil. What does this signify?

    Thanks,

    Jim

Just realized from reading another post that it's the job # from when the car was assembled. Can someone explain how that worked? Were the 3-digit #'s lined up in a week's timeline? Are there 4-digit job #s? I don't quite follow the purpose.

Jim, I learned from others here that it was a sequence number starting at #1, then to #500, then starting over at # 1 again. I think likely as a way to monitor and control production.
