    67 427/400 Scam/Fraud

Can anyone please tell me if they have come across this type of deal where it looks to good to be true.

I found an add in one of the Car Traders Magazines with a 1967 Corvette 427/400 loaded with pwr windows, headrests, pwr str, pwr brakes, and air all numbers matching for a low price of $5,900.00.

I went back and asked the guy to confirm if there was a typo error in the price.
    Attached are his emails.

    Hi there,

Thank you for your interest in my 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible. It's in excellent looking and working condition with clear US title (VIN# 194677S117251). Current mileage on the car is 4,332 miles. The reason why I am selling the car so cheap for $5900 is that I've recently moved to London, UK. The car is here with me but as you must have guessed it is a US specs and was manufactured for the US & Canada. Since I am in London, UK and the car doesn't meet the emission standards, I can't use it nor sell it here. So, because I must get rid of it, I am practically giving it away only because I have no other choice. If we come to an agreement the car will be shipped via Air Freight with no other costs or hidden fees. If you are interested in viewing some pictures or if you have other questions, please reply me.

I will appreciate a fast honest answer from your side as soon as you can.

    Michael Mattew ,

    Hello again,
    Thank you for your answer!
I appreciate you took the time to answer and in the same time I understand your concerns regarding the details of this deal. Since I advertised on eBay and I grew somehow fond of their policies towards their clients, I think the fastest and securest way to complete this kind of deal using their purchase programs.
If we want to make a fair deal for both of us it's recommendable to use the eBay. They give guarantees of protection for the seller's vehicle and in the same time for the buyer's money, such as: against fraud and material misrepresentation, providing coverage for any risks my car or your money can undertake.
Regarding the car, I must say that is 100% functional, with no scratches or any kind of damage, ready to find a new owner. If you are really interested in acquiring this super car, the steps in completing this deal fast are very easy: you should send me the next owner information, along with your name and the address where you would want to receive the car. The vehicle will reach your door-step in a matter of 7-8 working days at the max. You will also benefit of a 7 days inspection period no more than that, and if something proves to be wrong you can ask for a full refund. For any other reasons, if you want to return the car, you can send it back on my expense (although I really think this will not be the case!).
If this sounds good to you please provide me your full name and shipping address to open a case with eBay about our deal. Then eBay will contact you with further information regarding payment and shipping details. After I will get your information I will contact them and start the transaction.
If you are decided and want to get this car then I look forward for your next e-mail. If you have any more questions then please email me them and you will get your answers asap.
Please let me know your thoughts !

I would hate to loose hard earned money.

    Greatly appreciated

Jim, do yourself a favor and Google the entire VIN. I got 3 hits. In one of them the car is for sale for $195k. Even has pictures.

Looks like a scam to me.

Hey, NEAT FRAUD!!!! You noticed that HE will open an EBay account for you. How thoughtful of him. NEVER NEVER have anyone do this for you. He'll then send you an e-mail with an EBay logo attached asking for all you personal info. and away goes your money.
NEVER answer an unsolicited letter from anyone. IF you want to do business with someone you should initiate the contact.

          Jim------

This type of fraud is getting to be "big business". It surprises me that anyone would fall for it. Send the guy an e-mail and tell him that you want the car at the $5,900 price BUT you'll put the funds into an escrow account to be released to him only on your authorization and only after you receive the car and it is satisfactory to you.

....on a similar note, watch out for fictitious emails from Citibank, Paypal, and Ebay & whoever regarding someone trying to log into your account from a foreign IP address and to contact them via a link for security, riiiiiight.

Don't click on the links in the emails, they bring you to a lookalike site asking you to login, obviously to snag your info.

I've had 3 in the last 2 days.....kindof getting me really ticked off. Sent them to the spoof squads but you know....sometimes it goes nowhere. Although in one case I did a little IP hacking myself and found the ISP and sent them a note. They actually replied and shut down the bogus website.

I guess you never heard the adage "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't?". Almost funny that you even have to ask if this is a scam.
