Corvette coolant tank clamp just sold for $157.50! What a steal. I just got 2 of the identical clamps with a used early 62 exp tank, bracket, strap & bolts from an ex race car gentleman. My total price was less than this one clamp! Unbelievable.

ps John M., you certainly have some rare & fine items I must say.......

John does have some interesting parts but he is not the problem. John appears to be a good business guy providing what the market wants.

Saying that, the folks that pay these super high prices are destroying the hobby for the rest of us. I'm sure we have paid too much for the one part we needed, I know I have. But most of us watch our wallets.

Just remembered, many of these high prices are paid by restorers, they just pass the cost along and say they provided original parts.

I think the phrase goes " more money than brains"

        Hi Harry,

John is definitley not a problem at all. I gave him a compliment. His stuff is great and am glad he does this. I buy from him when bidding is reasonable.

              Rob,

$1,000 for original black Cal plates? Wow!
I better remove and save the vanity front plate from my '63.

I bought a mint set from a woman in southern Cal off of eBay about 7 years ago for about $35.00. They were plates that her father had ordered and never installed in '63. The plates arrived wrapped in the original envelope, which I should dig up somewhere, with mention of some prison or something.
Amazing how far some will go!

....and at the present time they can't even be used to register a car in California. There was a bill before the legislature to allow it for 63-69, but I don't know if it ever became law.

                    Rob,

I'm uncertain why black & gold CA plates are so desirable. What's with that? Is it real 24 kt gold????

I believe that they have just become legal to register for the model year 63-69 per new legislation, with appropriate year sticker etc. Also need to clear plate number through DMV because of redundant useages.

Black and Yellow plates can be used starting 7/1/09 - a year and a half from now.

Here in Florida they have a "Authenticated Plate" option. The plate year must match the car year. You send the plate to the DMV headquarters for them to verify it was a legally issued "tag", in good condition, not repainted or restored and the #'s not active. After approval and a reasonable fee, they send it back to you stickered with the exp date along with your new registration papers. Nice option.

My "nos" 59 plate is white with dark green, almost black, which nicely matches my white/silver car with black top. I found a gentleman in Vero Beach who sells original Florida antique plates back to the early 1900's. His email is flp8s(at)earthlink(dot)net . No website. I think he occasionally sells on ebay too using the same id prefix.
