Has anyone successfully used a 61-62 motor mount (the one with the notch on top) to allow installation of an aftermarket water pump on a 58-60 car? Alternately, is there a water pump (aside from a rebuilt original) that will fit underneath the stock motor mount for a 58-60 car?

Re: '60 motor mount/water pump
Matt,
On my '58 I am using the 61-62 style bracket with the currently offered aluminum water pump from GM Performance parts. I had to grind approx 1/4" off the front of the hump/boss to clear the bracket. Additionally I had to press the pulley boss approx 3/16" further down the shaft to bring the belt pulley into alignment with the crank pulley. Also I was fighitng leaks for awhile between the bracket and the block. I believe the aluminum with its expansion rate was compressing the gaskets over multiple heat cycles and eventually opening a leak path. Using fel-pro water pump gaskets and permatex non-hardening sealer I finally conquered the leak problem. Email me if you would like me to send any pictures.- Top

Re: '60 motor mount/water pump
Matt-----
Mike is referring to the GM CASTING NUMBER 3782608 water pump. This is a VERY common casting and can be found on many rebuilt waterpumps. However, it has been out-of-production for about 35 years, so you can't purchase a NEW waterpump which uses this casting (unless someone is reproducing them and I'm unaware of that at the present time). All of the NEW waterpumps on the market that I have seen do have the upper boss which will create interference problems for your application.
However, you should be able to get a very high quality rebuilt pump which uses the 3782608 casting. Bill Mock who advertises in the Driveline can help you.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
