Hello all,
Can anyone tell me if the underside of the trunk lid on a 61 is painted exterior color or is it painted gloss black. Same question for the cover that goes over the gas tank. Thanks much!

As I recall, the inside of the '61 trunk area was painted body color (changed from interior color in '59 or '60, I believe). Not sure about the top compartment/gas tank cover.
Tank cover exterior body color. The cover was NOT secured with screws at the time. Just laying on top of the tank. Often misaligned leaving unpainted fiberglass area around the tank.
Hi! The interior paint on my 1961 trunk is original and was painted the same color as the body. The finish was never rubbed out and is flat or a semi gloss in appearance. I have read postings on this subject and according to the authors, proceedure may very even during the same production year. If you would like a few pictures, let me know and I will email them to you.
