66 427/425 Valve Cover Drippers - need to shorten

I am going to need to shorten the valve cover drippers on this engine due to the roller tipped rocker arms hitting them. How much can be taken off and still leave the drippers effective. Should I grind them or cut them. I could go with the thicker gaskets however I dont want to if this will work. The reason is I cant use the correct valve cover bolts with the thicker gaskets.

if these are the stamped steel rockers with a roller tip you still need the drippers so cut them till the just clear the poly locks.if you have have poly locks make sure the top of the rocker studs are machined flat or they will not stay locked. if these are full roller rockers you do not need the drippers.

Clem -- as always thanks for the response. I do not think they are stamped steel due to their shape, construction and how thick they are. I think they are from comp cams. They actually have an L72 cast on the rocker.

if the have fixed needle bearing in the pivot you do not need the drippers but if they have a seperate rocker ball for the pivot you need the drippers. do you have the comp cam parts # from the box if so post it.

If you are using the Comp Cams "Magnum" (NOT "Pro Magnum"), these have an investment cast steel body with standard ball fulcrum and roller tip. I do not understand why these are causing interference even if you are using poly-lock type lock nuts (the Comp Cams nuts that are supplied with the rockers). However, if there is interference, I expect that it's with the nuts and not the rocker arms, themselves. With these rockers, I would use standard self-locking nuts even if there was no interference with the poly nuts. The self-locking nuts are always preferred as far as I'm concerned. They can't be used with full roller type rocker arms, though.
