    Dated Fan Clutch

How much is a mint dated clutch fan worth if I am to purchase? Did original 70 clutch fan have holes drilled for balancing?

    Thanks,

    Bill

    Bill,

If that fan clutch is also functional, there worth a lot! If you need to send it to Fred Oliva for refurbishing, reduce the price by the rebuilding service cost.

Original fan clutches only had 4 mounting holes, universal service replacements used multiple mounting holes in flange area.

      Re:70 SB Dated Fan Clutch

Okay. I have a copy of the NCRS presentation. Thanks guys! The fan clutch I have found is the style shown for use on the big block cars. Was there ever an occaision say on L46 or LT1 where the factory may have gone to the 7-1/2" clutch?

Also, was the bolt pattern the same for smaller versus larger diameter clutch? I know sb 70 is the last year for small bolt pattern.

      Thanks

      Bill

        Bill-----

The hub bolt pattern and the fan bolt pattern were the same for all 1970 fan clutches.

As far as the GM #3937771 fan clutch (the "pie plate" type) being used for small blocks, there is conflicting GM-sourced information on this. Since this is an often-replaced part, it's hard to say based upon observation of "original" cars. In any event, there is no functional reason that would have prevented the 3937771 from being used on small blocks.

Do you have the information for sending a fan clutch to Fred Oliva? Thanks, Rick

Please be advised that Mr. Oliva for at least the past month is not accepting any e-mails or returning any phone calls - I did notice that he is accepting checks. Will keep everyone posted as too where this whole thing leads to.

I talked with Fred today, he stated that his backlog is ten months out.
