A friend calls and says he has a Borg Warner transmission for a 63 and it's a T-10 and all aluminum. The Corvette Black Book states they converted over to the Muncie in 63. So, is it a Vette tranny? The numbers are:
3813490 Date: 7/17/63 , T21703, T10-7D, R2, B1232
I don't have a judging guide for this year and was curious about his claim.
Is it a correct tranny for a 63?
Thanks
Bill
I can't find any record of the 3813490 part number and, from what I can tell, it was never available in SERVICE. So, it must be a unit that was originally installed in some GM vehicle. However, given the date of 7/17/63, I doubt that it was ever originally installed in a Corvette. Given that date, it would had to have been installed in a Corvette built right near the end of the 1963 model year. I think that the use of the B-W T-10 ended well prior to that time.
Are there not any stamped numbers to be found on it which look like a vehicle VIN derivative?
