I am shopping for a good ins.co. I was going with Hagerty, but they won't take my wife as she was involved with one accident. So, who do you folks recommend? I am looking at American Collectors Ins. Are there others I should look at? Or some I should avoid?

Re: Collector car ins.
I have had Heacock for only three months now (just got my car) and the big issue with them was moving violations. I was told by a freind that I should have tried Grundy as they are a big name in our line of vehicles. Good luck.- Top

Dave;
I have used State Farm for all my insurance for years. They have been excellent on thE classic cars although I have had no claims. I did use Grundy a while back but found State Farm more competitive. Personally I feel a good local agent is very important.
Check them out.

Re: Collector car ins.
I was with American Collectors for 12 years. Then they changed their stance on stated value vs. agreed value. vs what you paid for the vechile. TOO complicated. Been with State Farm for past 6 yrs. They have our Ranch and all the cars. Got a HUGE discount with their umbrella policy's. Highly recommend them.- Top

Re: Collector car ins.
I talked to Hagerty. I thought they were rude and dismissive. Then I found out that State Farm insured collector cars. They asked how much value I wanted, said to send them pictures, and wrote a policy. I had much experience with State Farm when I was in the motorcycle sales business, which is really the motorcycle crash repair business. They never failed to ante up to fix the bikes perfectly.- Top

Re: Collector car ins.
Maybe you guys can guide me on this. Been with State Farm 25 years. Had an agent in Duluth, MN who followed car values and we agreed on a value after he took a quick look and a photo. No Problem. Moved to the Minneapolis metro area, and the local SF agent told me he would only value my 70 at $8000, unless I saw an appraiser of questionable background, who wants $250 to give me an over inflated value. My agent simply refuses to budge on this. I have about 5 different SF agents in a couple mile radius of me. Are these agents free to charge different rates and set different policies? or does SF have a standard policy?
I'd like to stay with SF.
Your thoughts are welcome.- Top

Re: Collector car ins.
My sense of it is that your agent can go to bat for you with Bloomington. If there are five agents, I'd shop them all. Although, if I had to, I'd readily pay the $250 bribe to get the coverage I wanted.- Top

Re: Collector car ins.
I have State Farm for everything else but my agent wanted an appraisal (I really object to having to pay someone $250, who knows less than I do, to render an "appraisal" to verify that I am not lying about the value/condition - what a hassle and a patently offensive way to do business). I went with American Collectors Insurance instead - very happy with them. Submitted some digital pics and a narrative. I have an agreed value policy. They treated my like a valued customer, unlike SF local who acted like they would be doing me a favor. I think you are right that SF must vary a lot by region or office.

Re: Collector car ins.
Dave, I've been with J.C. Taylor Antique auto insurance for 17 years. They have no agents (ergo no commissions) and are very reasonably priced. I've not had any claims, but someone in my club did, and they paid with no hassles.

Re: How about claims
Yes. I think you've heard about my mess.
If you go with State Farm, be absolutely, positively sure you have your car insured as a collector car and have an agreed value in writing.
If you don't, you will be screwed.
Actually, I went from SF to Hagerty and have had zero problems. I'm surprised they won't take your wife or why it's an issue. My wife had an accident too (more than one) but it didn't stop them from insuring my 3 older cars.
