Hello, After running a reproduction air cleaner on my 1967 427/435 for several
years I recently spoke to a man who has a new tri-power air cleaner, NOS, in
the origional box. Can anyone supply me with the origional part number and how can I tell if it is origional or another reproduction. Thank you always in advance for any and all help. John
The original SERVICE part number for the assembly was GM #6423757 and GM #6423758 if the car was K-19 equipped. If either of these numbers is on the box, the chances are that what's within is the GM piece. Of course, someone could always have switched what was in the box with a reproduction. How to discern the reproductions from the originals, I do not know. However, usually I can tell and original GM part from a reproduction, no matter how good, by some sort of "6th sense" when I inspect the part.

These are pictures of the top and bottom of my orig. air cleaner lid. Originals are flash plated and are not very well plated.
Hope this helps.

Keep in mind that the silk screened instructions on the bottom of the lid may have changed over time with even the GM pieces. So, just because the silk screen is different does not mean that the piece is not GM. In fact, for a more-or-less accurate reproduction of the silk screen, the reproductions might be better than some GM pieces.
With K-19, there an additional elbow nipple on the air cleaner base for the AIR pump intake.
For 1968-69, even though all cars had "K-19", the AIR pump did not take its intake from the air cleaner. So, 1968-69 air cleaners do not use a special base as do 66-67 with K-19.
Thanks Joe. Just proves I can't post anymore without lookin' stuff up in the book. I ain't even' gonna tell you what i was thinkin' K19 was, but it wasn't smog. :-(
