    C3 - 70 Trans rubber mount

Got my 2.5" exhaust bracket in the mail and installed it today, but noticed afer it was all bolted up that the trans can be jacked up off the rubber. My instinct is saying time to replace, but before I order one and wait 5 days to get it... is it junk? Is it a part I can get at NAPA etc.? Thanks!
    Jim
P.s. the 2.5" bracket looks like it is going to work out, so thanks for that help

    Jim----

Are you sure the rubber is actually separated from the steel frame of the mount? If it is, then you definitely need to replace the mount. However, if you jack up the transmission a little the mount will usually FLEX a bit which might be what you're describing. If the mount's elastomer section is actually separated it's shot. However, I would think that you would have seen this when the mount was out. Sometimes, they will just fall apart when you remove them.

In any event, you can get this mount at NAPA. I don't like the current mounts, but they may be the best you can do these days. NAPA number is BK6201024 and also known as Anchor #2378.

Joe, you never cease to amaze me!!! (having THE part number!!!) When I took it out it looked ok, but when I jacked it there was no stretching just seperation, the lower tapped screw plate stayed behind and the rubber upper part slid right off, so I guess it was a dumb question from the start... . I'll call my NAPA guy this a.m. Thanks!!!

I have been pleasantly surprised at the quantity of general use parts I have been able to get locally instead of having to go the usual vendor route.

There will be those who will poo poo NAPA and the numbers issue, but for those "burried" components and for those (me) who aren't so concerned with correctness game, I'll save myself at the minimum, the shipping costs and go Napa every time.

Case in point, just last week I purchased a vacuum fitting for $9.00. The vendor offered free shipping and then popped me with an $11.00 handling fee. If it wasn't for the fact that I needed the specialty fitting, I would have walked.

I won't miss a minute's sleep if my heater hoses don't have a GM logo stenciled on them.

Yea, the catalogs list this as about $11 and I just picked it up for under $9 and forget about shipping. The killer is that I had it all apart and didn't realize it was bad. I also figured it would never be available "over the counter" so I cleaned it all up, pulled the 61 back into the garage (under the lift with the 70 on it) and started playing with the snow blower; if I thought I could have gotten it yesterday, I would have spent the day doing that with the games on in the back round. now we got snow and it will be another week untill I can get back to it... When do thoes "poor guys" in the south get to work on their cars???

            Even Down Here...

A heated garage is nice...laminated resin and mat Saturday and Sunday at a toasty 65-70 degrees. Don't get the wrong impression because this is Texas...this area has been running 15-20 degrees colder than the rest of the state.

Ya' got to be young and strong to "shade tree" in your driveway with snow on the ground.

If your 1970 heater hoses (note the title of this thread) don't have the GM logo on them -- be happy. They shouldn't have them on there. That logo is a mid-year and just MAYBE 1968 thing. For those who have them, and don't want them, lacquer thinner is your friend.
Now be aware there are other grooves, not raised ribs, for the 1970-1972 heater hoses, but that is another story.

In this climate, I can have evaporative cooling in my garage...it's a stand alone unit separate from the rest of the house. Installation, operation and maintenance costs for evaporative cooling are low. It works well until about July, and then it's too hot to cool by evaporation. Starting mid to late July, you are going to have to be "young and strong" or start planning your work early and late.

In the rest of Texas, especially the Gulf Coast, the humidity too high for evaporative cooling, and also for human beings to be working outside mid day summertime (at least the soft, spoiled ones and the elderly ). If I lived in "The Rest of Texas", garage specs would call for refrigerated air.
