I did it!!! I got a RIBBON at Kissimmee!!!!

I would like to thank all of those here who convinced me to get my 59 flight judged. I had the time of my life. Back in the late 80's when I joined NCRS I always dreamed of being "in there" at an event. Yes I picked a tough one by going to the Florida Regionals for my first time flight judging, but what the heck, if you don't try you'll never know!

You all have helped me achieve a 3rd flight on my "good old girl" 59! If it wasn't for my incorrectly dated '519 I'd maybe have done 2nd flight. I know it may not seem like much to many of you, but I was elated! At the awards banquet Saturday night I was sitting there thinking no way am I going to be walking up there for a ribbon. I was absolutely shocked to hear my name called! I walked up all choked up and almost tripped over myself. It was awesome!

    Thanks Everyone!!!

Re: It's always the best feeling

when you don't see it coming isn't it Rich?

To even achieve a third flight is quite a daunting task that shouldn't be taken lightly by anyone!

That tells me that you put some serious effort and elbow grease into getting your ride in shape for the meet.

    Congratulations Rich,

    Chuck

            Good goin' Rich!!!!!

Soon you will have the judging sheets and a plan for what comes next, both with your '59 and your wife's '63. So, we'll be here to help you however we can. Just ask.
            Good luck, Kent

              Re: Good goin' Rich!!!!!

Thanks All.... I'll certainly need plent of advice. I'm getting ready to start the 62 soon too. The 63 will be maintenance as needed for now, along with ongoing work to correct anything that's not "right" when it comes up. I'll drive my 59 as usual whenever I can. BTW, I volunteered Saturday as a Observer judge for 4 beautiful 60's. It was great. I learned so much from the team about the cars. Great info for my 62 project too.

So here's the scoop on the 63. It was judged by the same teams that did the normal flight judging, excluding condition. No deducts or scoring was tallied, just "pass/fail" for Bowtie consideration. Technically it failed all 4 categories because of the lacquer repaint(est in the 70's), aftermarket A/C upgrade, upgraded power front disk brakes, replaced exhaust & rear trailing arm, non original carpet, dash mods, hoses, belts, clamps, etc, etc. I couldn't be there when they judged the 63 as my 59 was being judged at the same time. Cathie took notes but I'm disapointed I wasn't there for the inspection. So what this means now is now can restore it. That's fine with me. It'll be a little at a time. We may bring it back for flight next year, hopefully along with my 62 if I get it done in time.
