    Keith -

Nope, no difference. All the shim count marks on the frame were done on the frame line at St. Louis; all A.O. Smith provided to St. Louis was the painted and partially-trimmed body.

John, thanks for your response. At the recent Kisseme meet one of the better know NCRS judge was telling an audience that was gathered that A. O.
Smith used green shim marks. I agree with your statement. I wanted to put it out on the discussion borad in hopes of reafirming to the readers of this board just in case some of them were in attendance.

I've seen cars with green, when white ran out they grabbed the next color. Now MOST were white but I think John confirmed that other colors were used also.

When the line operator who did the shim marks (in Station #1 on the Frame Upside-Down Line during the midyear era or on the Chassis Line just prior to Body Drop during the C3 era) needed another grease pencil or paint stick, the line Utilityman wandered over to the General Stores crib with a requisition and got some for him. I doubt if color mattered much, as long as it was readily visible on the black frame for the guys who installed the body mounts later on; could have been just about any color the crib attendant had in stock - there was no "specified" color.
