clock and radio in my 64 vette

    Hey out there,

my radio just quit working in my 64 vette - I know there are ads in the NCRS publication as to where to send it, anyone have any recommendations? Also, I want to fix my clock which has never worked. I have heard pros and cons about replacing clock vs. fixing the original one. Would love to hear from anyone with suggestions and advice. Thanks for your time and input.. Gina

Re: clock and radio in my 64 vette

I had new insides done to my clock and asked that the rebuilder not touch the face. My concern was that a new clock would stand out from the instrument panel and just look "new" the only problem I have with the mechanical clock is when the battery is disconnected the clock will not start back up. Returned it, got back, but still the same. So they can be a pain, must remove and shack it to start it. Have since added a 2 amp by pass circuit to battery switch to keep clock running all the time.

I have had limited sucess starting a clock by pulling on the stem and then releasing it while it is fully extended. The snap will sometimes start the clock

Try giving Elmer Hoeferlin a call, PH# 636 926 2267, He has repaired several mid year radio's for me. His price has always been fair and the radios have worked like a champ.

          Gina,
I have used Roger at www.corvetteinstrumentservice.com successfully in the past. Roger cleaned and lubed my '67 clock in 1993 and it still runs true today.
          Good luck, Kent

I can't recommend Corvette Specialties of Maryland enough. First class work at decent prices. I had great experience with them on my '64 clock and then the wiper motor. The advertise in the Driveline and have a website with rates.

Be careful with Roger's. I had a disaster with him several years ago. There were a lot of other bad posts at the time. Perhaps he has improved but check with others on the Board first.

Please do not confuse Roger's Clocks with Corvette Instrument Service. I read almost all the posts on this board and have yet to read one negative comment about Corvette Instrument Service owned by Roger Scott.

are you referring to Roger Scott? I spoke with him today and was going to mail the clock down to him. Please tell me about the pitfalls. Or should I just replace my clock with a quartz? Thanks.

                            Kent,
Yes I did confuse Roger's Clock with your recommendation. I saw the word 'Roger' and reacted. Sorry about that.

                              Gina,
If you plan to have your Corvette judged, do not replace the original movement with a quartz movement. The factory movement depends upon your battery so, if you use a battery cut-off switch, it won't work when the battery is being saved. Don't worry, it'll work after Roger at CIS is finished with it.
