63 tires

I am looking to find which of the current reproductions tires are the closest to originals. I know I have read that some fit better in the spare tire tub, but I have searched and searched the archives and cannot locate that message. My car is a early 63 (dec 62 build) Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Kevin, if you check out Coker tires, be sure to look at their tires outside diameter. I ordered the Firestone and it didn't fit the well on my 64 Coupe. Sent them back, ordered the BF Goodrich Silvertown, great fit. It was about 27.4 OD vrs 28.5 for the Firestone repro. Measure your tub to see what diameter will work for you. Good hunting!

Yes the BFG Silvertown 1" ww fits fine as that was one of the original equipment tires. I put a Coker BFG from my 59 to test it and it does in fact fit. FYI, we chose 5 of the Coker American Classic P205-75R15 radials(apx $100 ea) for daily driving & spare. I was able to get the spare to fit by changing the front tire well hanger bolts to the longer type(apx 10 1/4") used for the 65-67 optional knock off setup. Only issue is the spare cover sticks down apx 1" lower all around. I chose Zip Corvette's bolts, Pt# TR-51A. Not "judgey" correct but it works. I saved the old bolts for future "judgeability"....Rich
