    1967 Job Number

I am cleaning a survivor 1967 and I find the job number as L296. I have never seen a job number with a letter as well as the numbers. This appears very clear both on the firewall passenger footwell and the rear bulkhead. It is in yellow marker. Is the use of a letter very common.

AO Smith body. It will also have a number on the Z bar behind the dash.

My St. Louis built 67 has 408F in white marker on the firewall side of the passenger side footwell and the rear bulkhead.

        Re: 1967 Job Number

        Jim,

A.O. Smith body cars have a letter designation followed by a three digit sequential running 1-500. So the job numbers ran A1-500, B1-500, C1-500, etc. You may want to check the archives as there is quite a bit of info posted on AOS job numbers. Hope that helps.

From my June, '67 A. O. Smith body

This is located on the rear bulk head just ahead of the gas tank. The same L383 was also written in yellow grease pencil on the engine side of the lower passenger floor board. "383" was also written in red grease pencil on the steel horizontal dash support (driver's side).

          Hope this helps.
          Tony

Surprised it was cursive, with the death of cursive because of computers, some day I'm sure the mark will have to be described as a old fashion hand written L.

              My AOS Z Bar number

As Wayne said, on the cross-brace behind the dash cluster (on my 65 AOS body car):
