I forgot to ask would you also have a part number on a oil pickup for this pan?

Congratulations Brad on your triple crown..........

I was wondering, have you ever had the plug leak?

I have a 1957 and no matter what type washer I use, it still drips ever so slightly, but enough to notice.

I have an oversize plug which I intend on using once my car starts and I change the oil.

        Allen-----

If your 1956 uses a left side, block-mounted dipstick, then as far as I know the GM #359937, or any other 57-62 oil pan, will fit your application. GM never cataloged the GM #359937, or any of its predecessors, for the 1956 application. The pans that GM did catalog for the 1956 application had a right side, pan mounted dipstick, though, and I don't think they will work for 1956 applications with a block-mounted, left side dipstick.

All this may be moot, however, as the GM #359937 pan is now discontinued. There may still be some around, though.

The pick-up screen was GM #3754942 but it's been discontinued for a long while. It may be available in reproduction or the aftermarket, though.

I don't think the oversize plug is going to do you any good and I don't think I'd install it.

Problems with leakage from the oil drain plug is VERY common. Most Chevrolets did it from day-one. GM used the same nylon washer for many years. However, it did not seal well. Later, GM changed the washer material, first to copper and then to a tin-elastomer bonded gasket, GM #14090908. The latter gasket is the best yet but it will still leak.

Of late, GM has introduced oil plugs that have an elastomer seal actually bonded to the plug. These work very well. However, I don't know of any that are SAE thread, although there may be one.
