C2 Convertible top - frame color

Has anyone used a semi-gloss black spray paint that comes close to matching the original black frame color? I'm in the process of replacing tje canvas top on my '64. The frame needs repainting, but every shade of black that I have found is either too glossy or too flat.

    Any suggestions....? Thanks

    Gary,

I had good luck with Krylon 1613 semi flat on my 67 frame. You need to get the frame very smooth with an fine wire wheel and use multiple light coats.

Here's a post from the archives on preping my frame for painting:

Lot's of posts on redoing the frame and convertible top between August and October 2006 on my 67.

People will say I'm crazy and in fact have, but I spray with Krylon semi and gloss at the same time. The sheen looks just right to me. Yes, that's right I use both my right and left hand. If you only do a small area and switch cans often that will work also. Try it on something and see what you think of the sheen.

I will probably catch grief here, but the frames are actually gloss. Done with cheap paint, but they were gloss. I have an original off of a 66 that was taken off the car and stored when about 6 mo. old.

I used Rustoleum 7777 Satin Black which is a bit glossier than the Krylon and also looks very close to the original sheen without being too dull or too shiny.

            Wayne ,

I agree with you . Mine was clearly original, clearly untouched and clearly had much more shine to it than Semi Gloss !
